Beginning with September 3rd, Sirje Karis, the former director of Estonian History Museum, has set about being the new director of Tartu City Museum. Karis was chosen to fill the position by way of public competition.According to Sirje Karis, Tartu City Museum holds a distinguished position in introducing and researching the history of Tartu. “Having been in charge of one of the leading state museums in Estonia, I see opportunities for growth in the future activities of Tartu City Museum to become even more noticeable and a more interesting memory institution for visitors. Of course, it is also of importance to collaborate with other Tartu museums and the university,” the new Tartu City Museum director said.Sirje Karis has worked at Tartu City Museum previously as well: in 2000 – 2001 she was the development manager and in 2002 – 2005 the director.The collective of Tartu City Museum wishes Sirje Karis a well and expedious time as the new director.
